Eagle River Water & Sanitation District will be hosting The Qualified Water Efficient Landscaper (QWEL) training at the Singletree Community Center in Edwards from May 12-14. Town of Vail and other local towns and land use authorities are considering enacting regulations requiring landscapers and irrigation professionals to have a QWEL, or similar water efficiency certification starting in 2027.
COURSE FEES:
The cost of the course is $150, which includes 3 days of instruction, exam fees, materials, and lunch.
Local landscape professionals, resort and grounds staff, water utility staff, and other municipal staff involved in water or irrigation management currently working in Eagle County may register for the course at a discounted price of $75. ERWSD will sponsor the remaining cost.
Landscape professionals working outside of Eagle County, along with interested community members are welcome to join the class at the full cost of $150.
REGISTRATION: There are TWO steps to register for this class.
1. Click the button “Register for this class” below. Follow the prompts to register for your personal QWEL account first (account username, create a password). Next, register for this specific class. Please keep your login credentials for future use (downloading certificate, entering CEUs, QWEL Pro status).
2. After you register, you will receive an email from Anna Grace Keller (akeller@erwsd.org) with payment information and options. Your spot in the course will be confirmed once we receive your payment.
Course curriculum will be taught by Irrigation Analysis. By registering for this class, you agree to attend all sessions listed below. To earn the QWEL certification, participants must complete a hands-on irrigation audit on 5/13 and pass the QWEL exam administered on 5/14.

5. Irrigation Systems
6. Irrigation Maintenance & Troubleshooting
7. Irrigation Auditing
8. Irrigation Scheduling
9. Irrigation Controllers
10. Bringing It All Together
COURSE MATERIALS:
All training materials, including supplies for the irrigation audit will be provided. All course materials will be available to participants in both English and Spanish. We will send participants a link to download the reference manual upon registration for the course.
Coffee, lunch and light snacks will be provided.
Please be sure to bring your own refillable water bottle, notepaper, pen, and a calculator (smartphones are allowed, provided you only use the calculator feature during the exam).
This class is tailored for landscape professionals, resort and grounds staff, water utility staff, and other municipal staff involved with water or irrigation management working in Eagle County, however, the course material can be applied to other regions. The course will be capped at 50 registrants on a first come first serve basis.
